The Black Hole and the Whisper

Prologue – The Two Commandments

A circle of light opens at centre-stage. The Scribe enters slowly, his face drawn but alert. A second figure – the Companion – waits in the shadows, half-seen.

Scribe:

They said the whole law is this:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind.
Love your neighbour as yourself.

Companion (stepping into the light):

And yet you wander through stars and scriptures,
through planets and parables,
through bargains and betrayals.
Why?

Scribe:

Because I am fallible.
Because I forget.
Because the compass shakes in my hand,
and the black hole whispers its pull.

Companion:

Then remember this:
Temptation is not sin.
Only surrender is.
The fire may burn,
but grace will rain.
Walk on.

Silence. The Scribe lowers his head, then looks up again, steadied. The Companion gestures forward. Curtain parts to reveal darkness beyond – the stage of the first scene.
