The Divine Umbilical Cord: On Forgetting, Remembering, and Enlightenment

Part VI – The Chakra Pattern

The Cord as Flow Through the Chakras

If the umbilical cord is the channel of nourishment from Brahman, then the chakras are the distribution centres – places where the primal energy differentiates into the many dimensions of human life. Just as stem cells become bone, muscle, or blood depending on the body’s need, so too the cord’s undifferentiated consciousness becomes survival, love, will, or insight as it rises through the chakric ladder.

This system is not fiction, nor mere metaphor. It is a map of inner anatomy. Mystics across cultures describe similar flows of energy, though by different names: the seven seals, the Sufi lataif, the Kabbalistic tree. Each is an attempt to chart how the soul metabolises the infinite.

Root (Muladhara) – The Cord Anchors
At the base, nourishment secures survival. Here the cord says: you belong, you are safe.

Sacral (Svadhisthana) – Desire and Flow
Energy differentiates into creativity, sexuality, joy. The cord becomes play and procreation.

Solar Plexus (Manipura) – Will and Power
Here the energy fuels autonomy, ambition, the fire of becoming.

Heart (Anahata) – Love and Connection
At the centre, the cord blossoms as love, compassion, and kinship. The heart becomes the hinge between survival below and transcendence above.

Throat (Vishuddha) – Expression
Energy rises into voice, into truth-telling, into the power of creation through sound.

Third Eye (Ajna) – Vision
Here the cord’s current becomes insight, intuition, the capacity to see through illusion.

Crown (Sahasrara) – Union
At the apex, the current returns to its source. The cord is recognised not as tether but as identity. The child realises it was never separate from the placenta of Brahman.

The Pattern Across Traditions

This ladder of energy has countless cultural cousins: Jacob’s ladder in the Bible, the ascent of the soul in Neoplatonism, the Sufi journey through subtle centres, the Kabbalistic tree. Each encodes the same intuition: energy flows upward through stations, transmuting survival into vision, instinct into insight, individuality into union. The cord is the through-line. The chakras are the rungs. Enlightenment is simply remembering the ladder exists and climbing it with awareness.
