Last/ing Memories

02 Jul

Should this be your last memory of me,
Would you make it a lasting one?
Overlay this with all the others that bring on a smile,
Wondering why they too had to pass.

Let it remind you of when I brought out the best in you,
When I pushed and challenged, though it was hard to do.
A few precious tears that I may have robbed you of,
The many holes I may have punched in your ego, tough.

Birthdays, parties, long drives, and crazy early mornings,
Worse yet, late nights with some puking, others strumming,
While still others sing, some counted beers,
And that—a new chapter penned.

Legal tussles, powerful foes, incognito friends,
Prayers of elders, guardian angels, the universe at large,
Delicate the balance—tipping one way, then the other,
Our fingers crossed, but never a malignant thought.

In your quiet moments, remember our laughter,
Echoing through corridors of shared dreams thereafter.
The touch of a hand, a gentle reminder,
Of moments woven into our work’s tender fiber.

As the days turn into weeks, months, and years,
Hold on to our stories, whispered in silent nods, not mere words.
The late-night projects and brainstorming sessions,
Our hearts beating in sync with our shared mission,
Even as the world around us relentlessly turns.

Don’t let the shadows of departure dim the light,
Of the joy and progress we crafted with might.
For in every goodbye, there’s a hidden strength,
A promise that our efforts endure at length.

Should this be your last memory of me,
Let it be a testament to all we’ve built,
A legacy of teamwork, of what was meant to be,
In the tapestry of time, a seed we’ve sown.

Remember me not in tear-streaked farewells,
But in smiles that reach your eyes, where joy dwells.
In the moments we shared and the goals we chased,
In silent times where our visions embraced.

To those who no longer share a common space,
I shall remember you at your best,
And the best you brought out in me,
Wondering why they too had to pass.

For bonds transcend the bounds of space and time,
Leaving traces in the sands of eternity.
Should this be your last memory of me,
Let it be the anchor of our shared infinity.
